Old Slovenian Christmas carols are known as “kolednice.” They were originally sung to celebrate the birth of the Sun during the winter solstice. After their incorporation into Christianity, their theme shifted to Christmas, celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. In some rare tunes, pagan motives remained present even after the transformation.
