Od zlata jabuka (Golden Apple)

September 18, 2023 @ 00:00 - September 22, 2023 @ 00:00 CET (Europe)

Od zlata jabuka (Golden Apple), a broadcast of Radio Belgrade 2, has been open every working day for 38 years now to all musical events and personalities who affirm traditional/folk musical creativity. It gathers researchers, melographers, ethnologists, ethnomusicologists and performers, looks into the archives and “museum exhibits”, revives legends, customs, rituals (part of the musical past that still lives today in the musical practice of certain communities), follows the changes in the variants of the traditional songs and their journey throughout time and much more… The week before the European Folk Day is dedicated to many topics: 1) Serbian folk lyrical songs – the guardians of folk traditions, we learn from them about the culture and history of our people; 2) legend of Marko Kraljević, a major character in Serbian oral tradition – goal, function and importance of heroes in folk creativity; 3) Stana Avramović Karaminga, a famous singer from Vranje, who preserved, cherished and transmitted her love for the traditional songs from Vranje to generations to come; 4) listening session of the album called “Pošle mome” – traditional Serbian songs from Crna Reka, performed by female ensembles from Boljevac and Ilin; 5) The Danube – an inspiration to many artists, who dedicated waltzes, songs, countless literary works to him as well as folk melodies.
