SUMMARY:Balfolk social dance with Naragonia Quartet & Duo Baftig
DESCRIPTION:More than an extension of the duo\, Naragonia Quartet has developed a separate repertoire and unique sound. They are guaranteed to provide an evening of beautiful\, energetic music for a concert or dance. Maarten Decombel (mandola and guitare) and Luc Pilartz (violin) join Toon and Pascale to create a musical universe with a festive atmosphere. \nLuc Pilartz is a very active musician in the folkscene since 30 years He was or is a member of many legendary belgian folkgroups as Verviers central\,\nPanta Rhei\, Trio Trad\, Musique à neuf\, Violon populaire en Wallonie\, Trip to Ireland… He also played as a guest with Urban Trad\, Ialma\, Carlos Nunez\, Photis Ionatos ( rebetiko )\, Perry Rose\, Faran Flad\, José Van Dam\, Bernard Foccroulle\, etc… He played a lot in Europe\, but he did as well many concerts in Canada and NorthAfrica. Luc is teaching the French bagpipes and the violin at l’Académie internationale d’été de Neufchateau. \nMaarten Decombel has had diverse musical tastes since his youth. He began playing music as a nine-year-old\, and discovered folk music as a teenager and studied classical guitar with Yves Storms\, then jazz guitar at conservatory. Now he plays with his bands Snaarmaarwaar and Göze\, and with Naragonia Quartet and MANdolinMAN. Recently\, Maarten has been working with his own trio and recorded the album “October Sunrise” on Home Records. In the past\, he has played with Griff\, Rémi Decker\, Urban Trad\, Christian Merveille and Les Tisserands. His concert performances have taken him throughout Europe and to China\, Canada\, and Japan. Maarten’s style is a unique pairing of driving energy and delightful lyricism. He is in demand as a teacher of folk guitar and ensembles and teaches at the Deinze music academy. \nCome on time for free dance lessons and to enjoy the great Iranian lentil soup (vegan). DESCRIPTION:Góbéfest\, Manchester’s original international urban folk music and dance festival\, is set to take place on Friday 20-Sunday 22 September 2024. \nJoint Friday headliners for the indie event\, which turns eight this year\, are gypsy folk band of the moment and Preston’s finest Mobius Loop and klezmer and Balkan music supremos She’Koyokh. \nWhilst Saturday’s headliner is Magyar Banda\, an 8 piece folk band all the way from Budapest. \nOther acts playing across two stages for the three day event include Koszika & the Hotshots\, Karolina Wegrzyn & Banda\, Csjilla\, Réka-Kata Regián & Szabolcs Horváth and Solymosi Duo. Further local and international acts are still to be confirmed. \nThe weekend promises an expertly curated mix of bands and solo artists\, folk dance troupes\, choirs and more. \nIndependent food and drink traders will be serving up favourites from around the Carpathian Basin\, from giant pans of goulash\, to the fried flat breads known as lángos and Transylvanian barbecued chimney cakes. Alongside craft beer\, there will also be a Hungarian wine stall\, a cocktail bar and a palinka (Hungarian fruit brandy) bar. \nFree activities in the family tent include music and dance workshops\, arts and crafts and storytelling. \nEstablished in 2017\, Góbéfest has its roots firmly in Transylvania\, but over the years has expanded its reach to cherry pick some of the finest performing artists from all over the UK and Europe. \nReturning to Cathedral Gardens\, the festival will for the first time be selling day or weekend tickets for the Friday and Saturday. DESCRIPTION:¡Vuelve el Bailando Entre Montañas! Superado el terremoto de la cancelación del evento en Redueña\, hemos encontrado nueva casa\, ¡y qué casa! \nEstaremos en Miraflores de la Sierra\, en las instalaciones de El Colladito. Habrá baile\, habrá conciertos\, habrá comida rica\, comunidad\, talleres de danzas y de música… \nDormir: \nTendremos dos posibilidades para dormir: habitaciones colectivas con literas (de 8 a 12 personas en cada una) o zona de acampada. No hay habitaciones dobles\, o individuales. \nSi lo prefieres\, puedes alojarte por tu cuenta pero no repercutirá en el coste de la entrada: el alquiler del sitio es por cada persona que entre\, y el programa no cambia si duermes fuera. \nComer: \nCENA DEL VIERNES \nEl viernes habrá una cena de “traje” (traje ésto\, traje aquello…): habrá solo un microondas y no hay nevera\, por lo que la cena del viernes tiene que terminar ese día y no hay un lugar para almacenar la comida del resto de días. \nRESTO DE COMIDAS \nTe animamos a comprar el “Bono Comidas” que por 25€ incluye comida de sábado\, cena del sábado\, comida del domingo y los dos desayunos. SUMMARY:Dryg Community - Traditional Dances and Songs in Lviv.
DESCRIPTION:Our goal is to create an environment and a community of people who love and are inspired by Ukrainian traditional music. For 5 years we have been holding dance evenings at various venues in Lviv. We teach people traditional Ukrainian dances. Inspired by the school of traditional music “Rys”\, we started with dances from the center of Ukraine. Recently\, we immersed ourselves in the study of the dances of our region – Opillya. At the beginning of the invasion\, we were one of the first to start gathering and fundraising for our friends in the Armed Forces\, and we continue these volunteer activities to this day. Brave Ukrainian soldiers inspire us\, because often during their short vacations\, they try to visit the community to NABUTYSIA (to fulfill themselves if you will – they say it’s a kind of therapeutic for them). We consider this joint NABUTOK (fulfillment) to be our greatest achievement. People come to us looking for self-identification\, get to know each other\, and start joint projects. They create an environment of cultural Lviv. Foreign volunteers and soldiers who protect us have repeatedly taught us their dances\, and we are also inspired by trips abroad and participation in various projects. Thus\, Danish\, Belarusian\, Lithuanian\, Austrian\, and ancient dances of the Ukrainian nobility appeared in our repertoire. Community member Lyudmila Zborovska regularly conducts master classes in singing “Barvy Risnoholossya” (Colors of Polyphony)\, where she introduces those who wish to the rich manners of performing traditional songs\, often taken from her own expeditions. We always support other projects of community members. \nThe older people in the villages remember these dances and we had the lucky opportunity to adopt them during the Opillya expedition. These dances are performed to an established composition of instruments – violin\, basolia (folk cello)\, tambourines\, etc. These are dances you do for fun and inspiration\, simple but fiery\, just right for both excitement and comfort.\nWe welcome both experienced dancers and beginners! Also for cooperation and participation in new projects related to the popularization of Ukrainian traditional music in Ukraine and abroad. \nFor almost 6 years\, in addition to our own dance evenings\, we attended a number of local festivals and also visited Poland\, Austria\, Lithuania and Norway. \n  \n#europeanfolkday  #europeanfolkday2024

DESCRIPTION:The project “Gosto do Vira” (I like Vira)  has been going on for a decade\, in Areosa\, Viana do Castelo. The 23rd of September 2024 is the first day of its eleventh edition – first lesson of the year! The aim is to dance\, dance and DANCE(!) with third and fourth graders at the local village school. Most dances taught are Portuguese\, but the children also learn traditional dances from other parts of the world. Songs\, visits to local historic places\, learning about traditional costumes and local festivities are also part of this project. DESCRIPTION:We welcome new members (singles or couples) or visitors with an interest in dancing. Beginners and experienced dancers are always welcome at any club night. We enjoy English Country Dances old and new\, American Squares and Contras and the occasional Scottish Country Dance.   If you have been to a barn dance or ceilidh you will have a good idea of what we do. At a club such as ours the range and style of dances encountered is much wider\, but just as much fun.   All dances are walked through beforehand to teach the figures\, and prompts are given during the dance. Our club callers have a lot of experience in teaching dances to beginners and more experienced dancers. The focus is on having fun\, dancing together\, enjoying learning the dances and dancing to the music.
