DESCRIPTION:Góbéfest\, Manchester’s original international urban folk music and dance festival\, is set to take place on Friday 20-Sunday 22 September 2024. \nJoint Friday headliners for the indie event\, which turns eight this year\, are gypsy folk band of the moment and Preston’s finest Mobius Loop and klezmer and Balkan music supremos She’Koyokh. \nWhilst Saturday’s headliner is Magyar Banda\, an 8 piece folk band all the way from Budapest. \nOther acts playing across two stages for the three day event include Koszika & the Hotshots\, Karolina Wegrzyn & Banda\, Csjilla\, Réka-Kata Regián & Szabolcs Horváth and Solymosi Duo. Further local and international acts are still to be confirmed. \nThe weekend promises an expertly curated mix of bands and solo artists\, folk dance troupes\, choirs and more. \nIndependent food and drink traders will be serving up favourites from around the Carpathian Basin\, from giant pans of goulash\, to the fried flat breads known as lángos and Transylvanian barbecued chimney cakes. Alongside craft beer\, there will also be a Hungarian wine stall\, a cocktail bar and a palinka (Hungarian fruit brandy) bar. \nFree activities in the family tent include music and dance workshops\, arts and crafts and storytelling. \nEstablished in 2017\, Góbéfest has its roots firmly in Transylvania\, but over the years has expanded its reach to cherry pick some of the finest performing artists from all over the UK and Europe. \nReturning to Cathedral Gardens\, the festival will for the first time be selling day or weekend tickets for the Friday and Saturday. DESCRIPTION:For the second time\, the Transylvanian Crafts Festival will be held in Târgu Mures Castle\, following the tradition of the Festival of Crafts\, founded by the Association of Folk Art Associations nearly 4 decades ago and now internationally known and recognised. \nThe festival is organised by the Association of Folk Art Associations (NESZ)\, the House of Transylvanian Traditions Foundation (EHHA) and the Association of Transylvanian Crafts Associations (EKESZ)\, a group of Transylvanian craft communities. \nThe 3 organisations are committed to promoting the values of traditional folk culture in Transylvania\, preserving it and passing it on to future generations. The two-day Festival programme is designed to offer thematic programmes where people of all ages can find something meaningful to do. \nThe focus of the Festival will be on Craftsmen and Workshops\, a series of workshops that will introduce the public to the small skills and tools of different crafts. Children will be entertained by play houses and craft activities\, while adults will be entertained by traditional concerts and folk dance performances on the main stage. DESCRIPTION:After last year’s success and again in celebration of the now 2nd European Folk Day neighbourhood initiative “schildHood” will be staging its second parking lot concert in Bad Kreuznach\, Germany. Location is once again the parking lot at the Baptist Church in Carmer Street. \nLike last year Dirk Bleisinger will be on hand with his “Toncafé” to provide the stage for three or four regional music acts – longside various coffee specialties. The event starts at 6 pm and is both highlight and conclusion of a yard sale taking place that afternoon in the area. After this will have closed everyone is cordially invited to relax with good folk music and a cup of coffee in a friendly and sociable athmosphere. 🙂 \nThe line-up of bands is not yet finalized\, but confirmed are local heroes Lost and Found as well as Celtic folk rockers Why didn’t they ask Evans? from the Hunsrück Mountains in a duo format. \nThe event is open to the public\, admission is free. DESCRIPTION:Zoltán Halmi\, folk dance researcher\, will give a lecture at the House of Traditions on the dance life and dances of Kétegyháza\, in which he will give a comprehensive picture of the dance culture of this village in the South Great Plain\, mostly inhabited by Romanians\, from the mid-20th century to the present day. \nThe lecture examines the relationship between individual dance skills and the community dance tradition in this Romanian community in Hungary\, and tries to place the ethno-ethnic characteristics of the village in the context of the Romanian community in the South-Eastern Lowlands. The focus is on dance calendars\, dance and music\, but also on costumes and their changes in the 19th and 20th centuries\, as well as on significant days\, beliefs and traditions of social gatherings. \n#europeanfolkday  #europeanfolkday2024

Through this Festival\, the 26 national communities of Vojvodina with their authentic cultural values ​​and traditions\, together with the indigenous and very diverse colonist and newly settled Serbian ethnos\, reflect today’s real cultural map of Vojvodina in their wealth of folk creative art. \nAmong the very diverse performance practices of local communities\, registered elements of the intangible cultural heritage of Serbia will be presented: Singing to the accompaniment of the gusle\, Clamour singing\, Kaval playing Groktalica singing Ojkača singing… \n  \n#europeanfolkday  #europeanfolkday2024
