SUMMARY:REBROTAR (Regrow)
DESCRIPTION:REBROTAR (Regrow) is a musical piece that explains the process of separation between people and nature. From its origins in perfect harmony to a confused present. How suddenly\, pushed by social evolution\, we can find ourselves trapped in a system that no longer respects natural rhythms\, people\, or food. How these rhythms keep calling us day after day and what happens when we realize that we need to resynchronize with our environment. \n \nAuthor: Anna Amigó Vilalta\nPiece for string quintet and harp\nStyle: Folk minimalism \nMusicians: Joan Mestre (violin)\, Norbert Llorca (violin)\, Elena Martínez (alto)\, Edmon Bosch (cello)\, Pere Loewe (contrabass)\, Anna Amigó (celtic harp)\nPlace: Cementiri General de Reus

SUMMARY:Bal Les Kickeuses & Duo Laloy Le Tron @ La Tricoterie
DESCRIPTION:Bal Les Kickeuses & Duo Laloy Le Tron @ La Tricoterie \n  \n17:30 – 18:00    Dance initiation – Koen Dhondt & Jessica Swaen \n18:15 – 19:45    Les Kickeuses \n20:00 – 22:00    Duo Laloy Le Tron \n  \nLes Kickeuses is a duo born from the wonderful meeting between Juliette Ferreira and Lolita Pariaud. Let yourself be carried away by their voices\, the frenzied playing of the accordion and the joyful sound of the flutes\, to the rhythm of the stompbox. The musical worlds of each of the musicians\, who share a common classical heritage and a love of traditional European music and dance\, have enabled them to develop a duo with a unique language and a distinctive aesthetic\, full of finesse and energy. The influence of dance in their music allows them to offer a repertoire suited to intimate concerts\, small gatherings and festivals alike. Discover their compositions and a few traditional songs rearranged with finesse on their first album\, Radio Lambert! \n\nJuliette Ferreira: Flutes\, vocals\nLolita Pariaud: Accordion\, stompbox\, vocals\n\nIt was undoubtedly written somewhere that Didier Laloy\, a pupil of Bruno Le Tron at the age of 13\, would one day play with him. With Tref (accompanied by Wim Claeys and Frédéric Malempré) and Les Samuraï (one of Europe’s finest accordion quintets)\, they have had the opportunity to prove that they are both giants of the diatonic accordion. But when they perform as a duo\, the result is a perfect\, balanced partnership that shares folk music at the height of its art. A few classics from the folk dance repertoire\, of course\, but a few surprises too! \n  \n\nTo respect the neighbours\, we’ll have to finish at 22:00.\nRegistration on the website of Frisse Folk is highly recommended\, due to limited capacity.\nNo need to print or show your entry ticket for the event. We will have a list with your name on it.

SUMMARY:Julie Murphy & Ceri Rhys Matthews
DESCRIPTION:engaged folk music from Wales \nJulie Murphy and Ceri Rhys Matthews are among the pioneers of Welsh folk music. They met at art school in 1979. They have lived in Pencader\, a small Welsh-speaking village in Carmarthenshire\, for over thirty years.  Many of their songs and melodies reflect the history and cultural life of the area. It is music rooted in place and language\, but the themes of love\, loss\, joy and struggle are universal.  \nCeri Rhys has also devoted himself to making musical instruments. He has researched and learned melodies that originated in his village and evolved in the larger town\, Dolgellau. Hundreds of melodies created by dozens of people\, shared memories and imaginations. Ceri Rhys Matthews has recorded over 25 CDs and performs as a solo artist\, with the band Fernhill he founded in 1995\, and also as a duo with Julie Murphy. \nJulie Murphy is a singer-songwriter from Wales with a long career. She is known for her remarkable\, contemporary interpretations of Welsh folk songs and her very personal\, yet politically engaged lyrics. She is a founding member of the Welsh folk band Fernhill. With the band\, but also solo and with numerous other projects\, she has performed in many countries\, not only in Europe and Canada\, but also in countries & areas such as Pakistan\, Sudan\, Gaza\, the West Bank\, Brunei\, Myanmar\, South Africa and Vietnam.  \nTIME OUT magazine called her a singer you absolutely must see and hear. Her remarkable voice\, which is hauntingly beautiful one moment and dark and mysterious the next\, has led to collaborations with John Cale and Robert Plant\, among others. \nThis concert takes place as part of the European Folk Day 2025.

SUMMARY:PALM BAY FROST
DESCRIPTION:Anfang 2021 lernten sich Sabrina Palm\, Simon Bay und Hartmut Frost durch gemeinsame musikalische Projekte kennen.

SUMMARY:The Canberra Eurosession [concert]
DESCRIPTION:When the world went online\, Canberra’s musical horizons expanded. Our session leader\, flautist Adam Fenech\, was up in the early hours of the morning\, meeting musicians and learning tunes from across the world over Zoom. With the help of ethnomusicologists\, balfolk dance groups\, and local Canberra musicians\, we have created a session unlike any other. Our repertoire is a broad cross-section of folk dance tunes spanning centuries\, borders and folk traditions from all corners of Europe\, and in this concert as part of European Folk Day\, we’d love to share it with you. \n\nSince the time difference will mean that (like some of the sessions that inspired ours) it may prove to be during the unsociable hours of the morning\, we will post clips of tunes from the concert on our Facebook page in the days afterwards.

SUMMARY:Klangkosmos NRW: Wales - Julie Murphy & Ceri Rhys Matthews
DESCRIPTION:Julie Murphy & Ceri Rhys Matthews are among the pioneers of Welsh folk music. They met at art school in 1979. It was an extraordinary time for both of them\, as their shared education continues to shape their approach to music-making: exploratory and creative. They have lived in Pencader\, a small Welsh-speaking village in the county of Carmarthenshire\, for over thirty years. The landscape consists of rolling hills\, fast-flowing rivers\, streams\, and ancient mixed woodlands. Many of their songs and melodies reflect the history and cultural life of the area: agriculture is still important; there was once a thriving wool industry\, the railway\, and\, to the west\, the sea. The songs also reflect the movement of people from the once impoverished countryside to the industrial centers for work. It is music rooted in place and language\, but its themes of love\, loss\, joy\, and struggle are universal.\nCeri Rhys Matthews has recorded over 25 CDs\, performing solo\, with the band Fernhill\, which he founded in 1995\, and as a duo with Julie Murphy.\nJulie Murphy is a Welsh singer-songwriter with a long career. TIME OUT magazine has declared her a “must-see and hear” singer. Her remarkable voice\, ghostly beautiful one moment and dark and mysterious the next\, has led her to collaborations with John Cale and Robert Plant\, among others. In 2016\, she was nominated for the Underwire Festival’s Best Composer award. Her solo album\, “Every Bird That Flies\,” was included in MOJO’s list of the ten best folk albums of 2016. \nJulie Murphy – vocals\, shrutibox\nCeri Rhys Matthews – wooden concert flutes

SUMMARY:Vilma Jää & Värttinä
DESCRIPTION:Värttinä has returned to the stage and released an album this year after a 10-year hiatus! The album reached number one on the world music charts!! \nIt’s Värttinä’s time\, VOL 2 – the legend of Finnish folk music\, welcome back. \nVärttinä made an impressive comeback by releasing a new\, wonderful album Kylyn (Rockadillo Records). The album ignites a spark in the deepest core of Finnish music – and at the same time takes it to new dimensions. Värttinä’s voice has carried the rich sounds of Karelian songs from generation to generation\, but the album is proof of how strongly the band lives in the times. Every note has been honed with years of experience and passion. Värttinä is back\, better than ever before. \nVärttinä will be accompanied on stage by the bright star of modern ethnopop\, Vilma Jää\, who brings fresh\, new pop energy to the traditions of folk music. Vilma released new music on 26.9.2025. Vilma Jää’s music combines folk music and contemporary pop in a way that touches both the younger audience and those for whom Värttinä has been the voice of her generation. \nThis European Folk Day concert at Martinus Hall is a Finnish opportunity to experience the polyphony and renewal of folk music – from the classics to the present day and the future. The evening invites the audience to a joint celebration where the past and the future meet.

SUMMARY:PALM BAY FROST
DESCRIPTION:Anfang 2021 lernten sich Sabrina Palm\, Simon Bay und Hartmut Frost durch gemeinsame musikalische Projekte kennen.

SUMMARY:Feminist Folk Club
DESCRIPTION:Thank Folk For Feminism and the English Folk Dance and Song Society are back with another pop up folk club! \n\n\n\n\n\nHosts Lucy Ward and Pinky Ward invite you to spend the evening in their specially curated pop-up folk club with three thrilling acts. \nNaomi Bedford \nAfter a vibrant full band gig at Cecil Sharp House last autumn\, English folk and roots singer and songwriter Naomi Bedford returns for the Feminist Folk Club for a more intimate set. \n“A favourite voice of mine…I love to hear her sing…” Shirley Collins \nMelissa James \nBest current British blues singer I know.” – The words of BBC Radio presenter Tom Robinson who has long given a nod of approval to the work of this singer-songwriter. Melissa James is\, however\, much more than a blues singer. She is a singer with incredible passion for her cause which\, she sees\, is to use her voice and her music to form connections with others. Her music blends folk\, gospel\, jazz – and life tales – but never without a large helping of the soul which stretches deep beyond her years. \nAmy Hollinrake \n“Hollinrake’s voice captivates\, a Sandy Denny for a new century” – TradFolk \nInspired by English and Appalachian folk blended with alternative pop music\, Amy Hollinrake draws on women’s stories within folklore and mythology and fuses them with a contemporary sound\, placing her at the forefront of the new era of feminist neo-folk. Described as “absolutely haunting” (BBC Radio 4 Woman’s Hour) and “both timeless and utterly contemporary” (Songwriting Magazine)\, her recent EP Sad Lady Songs Vol.1. reimagines traditional folk songs and tales\, combining them with dulcimers and synthesizers to create a head-spinning mix of yesterday and today. \nHollinrake is also the founder of project Loathly Lady\, a creative feminist cataloguing project exploring gendered narratives in traditional music. She is a EFDSS Creative Busarary 2024 recipient. \nThank Folk For Feminism is a platform for women’s voices and to further the conversations of both folk and feminism and explore how the two intersect. It is fun and uplifting but also at its core\, Thank Folk For Feminism serves to encourage the folk scene to explore intersectional feminist issues and increase the range and diversity of women’s voices within the genre.

SUMMARY:Folk Songs in Concert Style
DESCRIPTION:Concert on the occasion of the III. year of the international event The European Folk Day \nThe concert of students and teachers of the Bratislava Conservatory on the occasion of the 3rd year of the international event The European Folk Day will be composed of Slovak folk songs arranged by composers of classical music. The idea of The European Folk Day is about folk music as a carrier of voices and stories of people\, nations and communities. Folk music preserves the culture of the past and evolves with each generation. Each generation of classical composers also wants to respond to the legacy of folk music\, because the beauty of folk songs appeals to a wide range of listeners of all ages and backgrounds. Classical composers are sensitive to the creativity of folk musicians when they adapt their melodies for the trained human voice with accompaniment from one or more musical instruments. The fusion of folk music with classical composers points to the limitless possibilities of collaboration between creators throughout society\, resulting in new dimensions of culture\, taste and beauty.
