SUMMARY:European Folk Day in Clasijazz: concert by Vigüela
DESCRIPTION:Vigüela emerged in the 1980s as a group that performs traditional music (jotas\, seguidillas\, fandangos\, sones) with fidelity to its rural codes\, improvisation and at the same time a high-level artistic projection. \nThey have performed at major international festivals (WOMAD UK\, Førdefestivalen\, Urkult\, EtnoKrakow\, Sori Festival\, among others) and in prominent venues such as the Alte Oper Frankfurt. In 2022\, the US Library of Congress commissioned a recording for its archive. \nTheir collaborations include choreographer Sara Cano (Invisibles al Son\, 2022) and musician Jorge Pardo on their ninth album. They have received support from AC/E and AECID for their international reach. \nWith ten albums released\, the last three on ARC Music and the most recent We (2024\, Mapamundi Música)\, they have received great recognition: highlighted by German critics (Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik)\, awarded by LIMúR and selected by Mondo Sonoro among the best of the year. \nThis philosophy has made them pioneers in bringing traditional music to international professional stages: they have performed at top-level festivals and circuits in Europe\, Asia and America\, such as WOMAD UK \, Førdefestivalen (Norway)\, Urkult (Sweden)\, Mediterranian Music Festival (Switzerland)\, EtnoKrakow (Poland)\, Okarina (Slovenia) or Sori Festival (South Korea). \nOf particular note is his concert at the Alte Oper Frankfurt (Mozart Hall)\, within the Jenseits von Al-Andalus (Beyond Al-Andalus) series\, a space generally reserved for classical and contemporary music\, where Vigüela brought Castilian tradition to the German public. \nIn 2022\, the US Library of Congress commissioned Vigüela to record a live performance for its music archive. Here’s a still from the video on the Library of Congress channel. \nThey have also produced a documentary in seven languages and organize workshops and educational activities. International critics praise their authenticity\, energy\, musicological rigor\, and creative freshness\, positioning them as a global benchmark for Spanish roots music.
