VAKA Þjóðlistahátíð / VAKA Folk Arts Festival

The VAKA Folk Arts Festival organised by Vökufélagið, offers a very varied programme consisting of workshops, concerts, seminars, cinema and more. Most events are free of charge. By purchasing a festival pass, you gain access to all major festival events and support folk arts activities in Iceland. VAKA focuses on making it possible for as many people as possible to attend the festival’s events. Therefore, three different price categories are available for most events, and each guest chooses the price that suits them best.
Vökufélagið (Vaka Traditional Folk Arts Association) Vökufélagið is an association working to promote folk arts activities, and to build a vibrant, inclusive folk arts community in Iceland.

Folk arts traditions include music, song, dance, handcrafts, poetry, storytelling, drama, etc. They are constantly evolving, and by keeping the inheritance of previous generations alive, they simultaneously celebrate both past and present.
Vökufélagið members work on a variety of activities throughout the year. The association’s annual flagship event is the Vaka Folk Festival, which will be held in Reykjavík, 13th – 19th September 2026.
