European Folk Day – September the 23rd

European Folk Day: 23rd September 2024

The third annual European Folk Day will focus on Tuesday 23 September 2025
It follows the success of 2023 and 2024.

The inaugural 2023 Folk Day achieved 226 events in 32 countries, 104 tracks on the Music Repository from 28 countries, 26 radio stations (European Broadcasting Union members) – all showing the world just how much the folk arts mean to our nations and communities.

And in 2024 there was more – look at just a few examples:

  • Contribution made by radio stations, like broadcasting music inspired by folklore at the Latvia’s Radio (Latvijas Radio 1) or a special edition of the Spanish show Mundofonías with music from the Folk Day Music Repository; and in 2024 the European Broadcasting Union renewed the collaboration with the Folk Day on this 2nd edition.
  • Participants premiered videos, like the series “The Flutefling Collection Videos”
  • There were many live music events, such as “Singing the Tales from Sicily” by the Coro Polifonico Canta Rei in collaboration with Roxy Studio or the concert by the bagpipes band Rías Seicas from Toledo, Spain;
  • Traditional dance events, like the BalFolk with the Familie Gerstenberg in Frankfurt, or the performance of the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble with the program Urban Wanderers at the Hungarian Heritage House in Budapest.
  • And storytelling was also present with events like the video streaming of “Mythical Creatures of European Folklore” by Lena Heide-Brennand from Norway and in multidisciplinary acts like Folk A Doodle Dae – folk ´n´tainment in Hannover.

You made it possible, you made it happen.
And you can make it happen again in 2025!
