Ríoghnach Connolly duo

Ríoghnach Connolly is a Northern Irish singer who naturally blends folk and soul. Her repertoire moves between original work and traditional influences from Ireland and the United Kingdom.

Ríoghnach Connolly grew up in a musical family in Northern Ireland and has since built an impressive international career. She has toured with The Breath, Honeyfeet and Afro Celt Sound System, among others, and has been named Folk Singer of the Year by both RTÉ and BBC Radio 2. Her voice has been praised as timeless and intense, a rare combination of finesse and raw expression.

For this performance, Ríoghnach is joined by British keyboard player John Ellis. Ellis grew up in Manchester and has been active as a musician, producer and composer since the 1980s. Over the years, he has worked with a wide range of artists, from The Cinematic Orchestra and DJ Vadim to John Squire of The Stone Roses, Lily Allen and Tom Jones. He has also shared a strong musical connection with Ríoghnach for many years, working together in Honeyfeet and on various other projects.

Together, Connolly and Ellis delve into the traditional music Ríoghnach grew up with. Her powerful vocals and distinctive flute playing are given a versatile musical foundation by Ellis’ keyboards.
