Share a Folk Song
Do you enjoy singing? Do you like singing songs in different languages? Or perhaps you simply enjoy listening to beautiful music and great stories? Then Share a Folk Song is for you!
You are warmly invited to Trefoldighet Church Centre on 24 September to listen, learn, and sing music from all around the world. You do not need to share a song yourself, but if you would like to, you can send an email to: victoriaofte@gmail.com.
Share a Folk Song began in The Hague, founded by folk singer Anouk Vinders as a space for sharing folk songs from different traditions and building connections through music and storytelling. Musician Victoria Oftestad has brought the concept to Norway, where she organized monthly singing gatherings at Furuset Library during the spring of 2026. For each event, a handful of participants are invited in advance to share and teach a song from their own culture or tradition. The entire event is facilitated by Victoria, who leads the gathering in a playful and engaging way.
Share a Folk Song is a direct contribution to promoting diversity, inclusion, and community-building across cultural differences in Oslo. Experience shows that participants often discover musical similarities that transcend national borders and connect cultures. These gatherings are not only musical but also social, bringing together people from different backgrounds and creating an environment where participants feel comfortable sharing music, stories, and a part of themselves.
