The Folk Medicine Lecture Series Turns 10

Roundtable Discussion
Ten years, dozens of speakers, countless stories and a wealth of knowledge. The House of Traditions is celebrating the anniversary of its lecture series on folk medicine, a program that has covered nearly every important aspect of folk medicine over the past decade. We’re celebrating this milestone anniversary in a special way. Márta Legeza, the series’ editor and host for nearly a decade, will look back on the past ten years with guests who have been key figures in the series. Her conversation partners will be Péter Babulka, Dániel Babai, and Gergely Agócs.
Thanks to outstanding presenters, we’ve learned about the world of medicinal herbs, healing practices that straddle the line between folk beliefs and folk religion, the role of midwives, bloodletting, cupping, and leech therapy. We explored Mongolian, Vietnamese, and Bolivian healing traditions, while also learning about the connections between modern medical treatments and folk medicine. Year after year, the series has enriched our understanding of health culture with new perspectives and engaging speakers.
