In the Jūrkalne St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, one of the most remarkable heritage stories is the ship model that has adorned the church’s vaults for more than a century and a half. It symbolizes the legend of sailors who were miraculously saved from a shipwreck near the shores of Jūrkalne. Crafted in the 19th century, the model represents the craftsmanship of its time and the close connection between maritime traditions and the local spiritual life.
European Heritage Days in Jūrkalne. To honor this event, the blue flag of the European Heritage Days was consecrated in the church, while the celebration was enriched by performances from the Suiti Ethnographic Ensemble “Gudenieku suiti” and the kokle players’ group “Četri vēji” (Four Winds), filling the church with songs and a special festive atmosphere.
