European Folk Day – September the 23rd

Värttinä has returned to the stage and released an album this year after a 10-year hiatus! The album reached number one on the world music charts!!
It’s Värttinä’s time, VOL 2 – the legend of Finnish folk music, welcome back.
Värttinä made an impressive comeback by releasing a new, wonderful album Kylyn (Rockadillo Records). The album ignites a spark in the deepest core of Finnish music – and at the same time takes it to new dimensions. Värttinä’s voice has carried the rich sounds of Karelian songs from generation to generation, but the album is proof of how strongly the band lives in the times. Every note has been honed with years of experience and passion. Värttinä is back, better than ever before.
Värttinä will be accompanied on stage by the bright star of modern ethnopop, Vilma Jää, who brings fresh, new pop energy to the traditions of folk music. Vilma released new music on 26.9.2025. Vilma Jää’s music combines folk music and contemporary pop in a way that touches both the younger audience and those for whom Värttinä has been the voice of her generation.
This European Folk Day concert at Martinus Hall is a Finnish opportunity to experience the polyphony and renewal of folk music – from the classics to the present day and the future. The evening invites the audience to a joint celebration where the past and the future meet.
