European Folk Day – September the 23rd

Alice in WonderBand Balkan body music duo participated for the first time in the annual project of Bahnhofs Orchestra. Watch the premiere of the song Niška banja, from our upcoming album, performed by the international orchestra of the cultural center Bahnhof Leisnig.
During the seven-day residency, forty international musicians learn, arrange and practice seventeen folk compositions from different countries around the world (Japan, Holland, Germany, Portugal, Finland, Ireland, USA, Georgia, Palestine, Greece, Brazil, Persia, France, Scotland and Serbia). The concert by the orchestra of the Railway Station in Leisnig, as well as the residency, takes place in this extraordinary independent cultural center in Saxony. The core of the project are three artists and cultural workers from Germany, Kathryn Doehner, Christoph Schoenbeck and Alireza Rismanchian.
The song Niška banja is from the South of Serbia in an odd, čoček (chochek) rhythm. As we like to explore the irregular meters, we added a 13/8 part with a bit of poly-rhythms. The arrangement for the upcoming album was done by Vilma Talvitie, the guest on the song, and AWb, Ana Vrbaški and Marko Dinjaški.
